Mission Spotlight 2023 – Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County, Together Today Program

Happy 1st Year of the Together Today Program at OPPC!

Together Today Carmel just celebrated its first year anniversary, in August 2023,  with games, Bingo, balloons, cake and a delicious Chick-fil-A lunch! For the past year, Orchard Park has hosted the weekly program offered through Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County.  From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday, folks 55+ gather together in the Lounge to socialize, play games and enjoy a delicious lunch. They make new friends and develop a caring attitude toward each other, looking out for each other’s welfare.

Connection plays a vital role in individual, community and societal health. But here in the United States, there is an epidemic of loneliness, according to the Surgeon General.  Approximately 1/2 of U.S. adults report experiencing measurable levels of loneliness. Physical consequences can be devastating, including increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and dementia.

The goal of Together Today Carmel is to prevent isolation and create community. From there, Shepherd’s Center can reach out in other ways to support guests in their homes and help them maintain dignity with aging, relieve stressors and maintain their independence. Visit Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County  to learn more about the many programs offered.

Thanks to a cadre of lead volunteers, Orchard Park hosts 20-25 guests almost every Wednesday.  Thanks to you, we have a lovely setting in which to meet.  And thanks to Lion’s Club for suggesting Orchard Park as the perfect place to start and lead a Together Today program.

If you are 55+, come join us.  Give it a try.  Make new friends and have some fun along the way.
