Out of the depths, she cries to the Lord. In the quiet of her solitude, the light of God’s mercy illuminates her heart, reminding us that forgiveness makes hope and service possible.

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice.  Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.  If you Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?  But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.  I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.  I wait for the Lord more than the watchmen wait for the morning; more than the watchmen wait for the morning. -Psalm 130:1-6

God promises to listen, forgive, guide and provide us with opportunities to serve.  We need to pray, listen, obey and serve.  Created “in the image of God”, we are blessed to see and hear God.  We can appreciate the world he created.  We can imagine the future.  We can trust God’s promises.  We can use our time, talent and treasure for His purposes.  We can feel God’s presence.

During the Advent season we look forward to God’s gift of a son, a prophet, a teacher and a redeemer.  His gift of grace destroys our worries.  His fulfilled promises give us hope and confidence.  His embrace gives us peace.

Listen for God’s voice.  Tune it in.  Imagine a better world for everyone.  “Thy will be done on earth”.  We live in a skeptical age that undermines objectivity, faith and confidence.  Tune out the noise and the static.  Wait for the Lord’s guidance like the night watchman waits for the morning.
