Survey of Voting Methods

Ballot box with person casting vote on blank voting slip

Join us Sunday, August 3rd at 11:15 am in the lounge.

When election time rolls around, how often do we say, “I don’t want to vote for either candidate”?  Most of us don’t realize that many of our election problems are caused by the voting method that we all take for granted (that is, “vote for only one candidate”).

This talk is about several new voting methods that are becoming popular (e.g., ranked choice voting in Alaska, approval voting in St Louis) and the importance of reform.  The talk is informal and completely non-partisan.

Presented by Brian K Schmidt who has a PhD in mathematics and has taught math at several universities, including Indiana University.  He is now retired and lives in Carmel.
