Soup + Suspense | Lenten 2025 Series

This Lent, Orchard Park Presbyterian Church invites you to embark on a journey where faith and fiction intersect in profound and unexpected ways. Our Mystery and Mysterium Lenten Series, presented by renowned speaker Michael Lindvall, explores the connections between mystery literature and Christian faith, uncovering themes of guilt, redemption, moral dilemmas, and interfaith relationships.

Michael Lindvall, a distinguished theologian and author, has preached and taught worldwide, including addressing the Scottish Parliament and preaching to Queen Elizabeth II at Crathie Kirk. His vast experience and deep theological insights promise an enriching and thought-provoking series.

Join us on Wednesday evenings during Lent, where we will gather for a homemade soup and bread meal from 6:00–6:30 PM, followed by an engaging program from 6:30–8:00 PM. You can attend one or all of the evenings: March 19, March 26, April 2, and April 9.

Wednesday, March 19 – Mystery Literature and Christian Faith
Mystery fiction and Christian conviction share a long and surprising relationship. From biblical narratives to modern detective stories, the search for truth often mirrors the spiritual journey of faith.

Wednesday, March 26 – The Toxicity of Guilt and the Power of Confession
We all have burdens of guilt, but what happens when we hold onto them too tightly? This session will examine how confession, though challenging, is a powerful step toward healing and renewal.

Wednesday, April 2 – Knowing the Right Thing to Do Can Be Wrenchingly Difficult
Moral decisions are rarely black and white. How do we navigate the gray areas of life? This discussion will delve into the complexities of discernment and decision-making through both scripture and mystery fiction.

Wednesday, April 9 – The Long, Complex, and Often Fraught Relationship Between Judaism and Christianity
The history between Christianity and Judaism has been challenging, but understanding our shared roots can lead to stronger interfaith relationships. This session will explore how we can move toward mutual respect and deeper understanding.
