At OPPC, we are committed to nurturing faith across all generations, creating meaningful connections, and providing spaces where individuals can grow spiritually and find community. Through our various ministries, we offer care, support, and engagement to everyone—from our youngest children to our most senior members.
Children’s Ministry: Building a Strong Foundation
At OPPC, Christian education begins in the Nursery, where our youngest members are nurtured in a loving and supportive environment. Children of all ages are welcome in Sunday worship, and may also choose to attend Children’s Church. After church, children may participate in Sprout, where they explore scripture, art, and music. For our 3rd-5th graders, the Threads program provides transitional support, helping them deepen their faith as they prepare for the next stage of their spiritual journey. With 10-15 children participating regularly, these programs create a foundation for lifelong faith.
This year, our Vacation Bible School (VBS) brought together 139 participants, including 63 volunteers and 76 attendees. Remarkably, 80 of the participants were not OPPC members—many were invited by preschoolers or youth who brought friends to join in this faith-filled week of learning and fun. In addition to VBS, OPPC’s Children’s Ministries host special events like Trunk or Treat, the Christmas Pageant, and the Easter Egg Hunt, all of which foster community and joy for children and families.
The Young Families Fellowship meets twice a month, providing parents with a space to connect and support one another. These relationships create a strong support network that positively impacts children’s emotional, social, and academic development by surrounding them with trusted adults who care about their growth.
Youth Ministry: Growing in Faith and Service
Our youth are engaged in dynamic experiences that help them live out their faith through study, service, and fellowship. This year, our youth participated in Caravan, where 27 young people served their community by feeding 350 homeless individuals, building 40 bunk beds for children, and laying fencing for an equestrian therapy program.
High school students have embraced leadership roles and committed themselves to active participation in youth groups, Bible study, and intergenerational study, with a core group of 25 students attending at least two hours of intense Bible study each week. Middle school youth, with 10-15 participants, remain actively engaged through Sunday school, Bible study, confirmation, and retreats like PYOCA.
We’ve also expanded our outreach to young adults with new initiatives like the Campus Ministry at IU and Purdue, where 15 students stay connected through scripture and prayer in group chats. Our Breakfast Club for 20-somethings continues to grow, and 21 members are registered for the Passion Conference in January.
Youth fellowship events, from tubing on the White River to lock-ins and ski trips, have added up to over 500 hours of community-building this year.
Adult Education and Fellowship: Growing Together in Faith
Faith formation doesn’t end with youth. At OPPC, we continue to nurture spiritual growth through adult education programs, which provide space for reflection, study, and fellowship. Six groups meet weekly, engaging in Bible Studies on topics like the Psalms, participating in seasonal educational series, or attending Soup and Study gatherings. Not including individual Bible study classes, our church-wide evening programs brought in 315 individuals this year, totaling 3,496 hours of education. These programs offer opportunities for deeper faith exploration and meaningful connections within our congregation.
Music Ministry: Lifting Spirits Through Worship
Music is at the heart of worship at OPPC. Every week, our music ministry inspires and uplifts our congregation, enriching our services with beautiful expressions of faith. From our regular worship services to special events like Easter, Christmas, and Bluegrass Sundays, the music offered is a key part of the church experience. With 31 choir members, 12 bell ringers, numerous instrumentalists, and 6 band members, our music ministry is a cornerstone of worship, offering powerful moments that bring the congregation together.
This ministry is made possible through your generous pledges, which support everything from hiring musicians for special services to purchasing sheet music. Music has long been a “calling card” of OPPC, drawing members into deeper connection with God and each other.
Deacons’ Ministry: Compassionate Care for All
Our deacons provide essential care to those in need, ensuring that everyone in our congregation feels supported and connected. Whether through regular visits to homebound members, providing comfort and support during funerals, or sending birthday cards to our youngest members, the deacons’ work is a testament to the love and care we offer each other as a church family. Their dedication helps keep us connected, especially during times when individuals may feel isolated or in need of extra support.
At OPPC, we are all part of a larger story—one of growth, support, and spiritual development. Your generous pledges make these ministries possible, ensuring that we can continue to care for and nurture all members of our congregation. We invite you to prayerfully consider your pledge by October 6th, so we can keep these vital ministries thriving.
Make your pledge today through your Realm account or by returning your pledge card to the church office.
