On May 18th, Orchard Parkers gathered to assemble 250 birthday kits for food insecure neighbors who visit the CUMC Food Pantry. According to Feeding America, 10.1% of Hamilton County residents are concerned about where their next meal will come from. And 22% of Hamilton County residents have incomes below SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) guidelines.
Birthday kits containing a cake mix, frosting, a can of soda, candles and a card allow our neighbors, who can barely afford basic necessities, to celebrate a family member’s birthday with something special. This is just a small and easy way for Orchard Parkers to show they care for their community.
