Citizens have a responsibility to understand their society and participate in its political process. Let’s set aside specific partisan issues and attempt to understand our current condition, what divides us and what could reengage us. Let’s discuss the core chapters of a half dozen key books in five months.
Our challenges are great, but our understanding of people, communities and politics is better than ever. Americans have much in common. There are common sense steps that can improve our political process and produce better results for all of us. Each book is $10.00.
- Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis, Robert D. Putnam, 2015
- Liberalism and Its Discontents, Francis Fukuyama, 2022

WOMEN’S THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY
June 15 will be using the book “When You Pray”. It’s a study of six prayers in the Bible, where each week’s study is written by a different author. We will meet virtually through a zoom room. We will gather in the zoom room around 9:45, begin at 10:00, and should be done by 12. Email lpope714@gmail.com for a zoom invitation and information about getting the book.
From the back of the book:
“Prayer is a gift—an invitation to talk with God. But prayer can also be a challenge. Do you have trouble thinking of words to say, fear some emotions are too intense to express to God, or reach the end of a day only to realize you haven’t prayed at all? You’re not alone. Thankfully, in God’s Word we encounter many voices who teach us how to pray. In this 7-session study, beloved Bible teachers Kelly Minter, Jackie Hill Perry, Jen Wilkin, Jennifer Rothschild, Jada Edwards, and Kristi McLelland will help you study prayers in the Bible that can inspire your own. You’ll find that when you pray, your faith is strengthened, and your heart is united to Jesus.”
