Loving God with our minds

“Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

Jesus replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all heart and with all your soul

and with all your mind."

- Matthew 22:36-37

Christian Education is where we seek to love God with our minds, and it is a life-long process. We at OPPC believe that we should never stop being “learners.” Adult Education programs at OPPC offer adults at all stages of life the chance to deepen their knowledge of the Bible and grow in their faith. Opportunities are offered throughout the year in a variety of formats so that all may find ways in which to grow and mature as Christian believers.

Bible Studies, Classes, and groups

  • Thursdays @ 9:45 a.m.  (beginning January 17)
    Women's Bible Study

The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis by Nancy Guthrie

    Leader: Leann Pope

On January 17, the Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study will begin a ten-week study of   “The  Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis” by Nancy Guthrie. Class will gather at 9:45, begin at 10:00 a.m. and end no later than 11:30 a.m.. The study includes weekly homework for personal study, group discussion, and a teaching video that emphasizes how the passage fits into the bigger story of redemptive history. The Promised One provides a fresh look at the book of Genesis, leading readers in discovering how its stories, symbols, people, and promises point to Christ.

Contact Leann Pope for more information. Books will be available at the first session for $15.

  • Tuesdays @ 6:15 a.m.
Men's Bible Study in the Lounge

Led by members of the group

This is a relaxed time of fellowship and study! We use various series that provide Bible lessons that are easily completed within a one hour discussion format. Great conversation, prayer time, and coffee!

  • Wednesdays @ 10:00 a.m.

    Bible study in the lounge

Join us for an Advent Bible study and baked treats! In  Isaiah 9:6, a divine utterance is given to us using four royal title--Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. These names are known to us because of Handel’s Messiah. Throughout Advent we will discuss Names for the Messiah by best-selling author Walter Brueggemann, which ponders each title and  considers how the people understood it then, how Jesus did or did not fulfill the title, and how Christians interpret Jesus as representative of that title. For more information contact Rev. Mike Samson.

  • The journey - Deeper discipleship

As you consider the year ahead, are you  taking God’s plans for you into account?

Consider going on a deeper dive in your relationship with God and others. The Journey provides a context and a process for an extended conversation about God, ourselves and where we fit in God’s kingdom work in the world. Journey groups will be made up of about eight people and gather weekly for 60-90 minutes over approximately 22 weeks to experience together conversations, questions and processes that deepen and empower owr individual and collective spiritual formation. By focusing more intently on the ways in which God is at work in and through each person, we will

seek to guide participants toward greater clarity around God’s plan for them; as well as igniting participants toward greater influence for God’s mission in the world.

There is a fee to participate and the materials you receive are yours to keep. For more information, please contact Rev. Mike Samson.
